MP4 to AUDIO Conversion FAQ
Which audio format will I get from my MP4?
+
MP3 by default, because nothing refuses to play it. You can choose a different target: AAC for better quality at the same bitrate, FLAC or WAV when you need lossless, OGG or Opus for open formats and low-bitrate speech.
What bitrate should I choose?
+
192 kbps is the default and sounds transparent to most listeners on most material. Choose 320 kbps for the highest quality the format offers, or 128 kbps for speech and podcasts, where it is plenty and makes a much smaller file. Going above the source bitrate never adds quality.
Can I extract just part of the MP4?
+
Convert the whole thing, then use /trim/ on the result to keep the section you want. Two quick steps beat re-running a long extraction to adjust the boundaries.
Does the MP4 keep multiple audio tracks?
+
If the source carries several tracks (alternate languages, commentary), one is extracted: normally the main one, the track with the most channels. There is no setting to choose a different track, and most audio targets hold a single track anyway.
What about the sample rate?
+
The source sample rate is preserved by default — 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz both pass through unchanged. Resampling is available but rarely useful, since it cannot recover detail that was never recorded.
Why is the audio file so much smaller than the MP4?
+
Because MP4 is the safest delivery container: H.264 video with AAC audio plays on effectively every phone, browser and TV without a codec pack — most of the original bytes were the parts you are discarding. Keeping only the audio track routinely produces a file a small fraction of the original size, and that is expected, not a sign of quality loss.
Can I process several MP4 files at once?
+
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
Should I pick a lossless target?
+
Only if you are going to edit or master the audio afterwards. For listening, a good lossy encode is indistinguishable and a fraction of the size. Note that converting an already-lossy source to a lossless target does not restore anything — it just stores the same audio in a larger file.
Is my MP4 private during conversion?
+
Yes. Uploaded MP4 files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted AUDIO are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
