Is this a document converter or a table extractor?

A table extractor. The converter reads your PDF, finds the tables inside it, and writes those out as Excel. Everything that is not a table - body text, headings, images - does not come across, because there is no sensible way to lay prose out in spreadsheet cells.
What if my PDF has no tables in it?

Then it cannot be converted, and the converter says so instead of pretending otherwise. Where there is no table there is nothing to put into Excel, so you get a clear error asking for a file that contains at least one table - not a valid-but-empty spreadsheet.
Will the paragraphs and headings of my PDF appear in the Excel?

No. Only tabular data crosses over. If you need the wording of the document itself, convert the PDF to an editable document format such as DOCX, ODT or TXT instead - that path keeps the text and drops nothing.
Are tables detected reliably?

In a DOCX or DOC, yes - the table is a genuine object in the file and is read as-is. In a PDF there is no table object to read, so detection works from ruled borders and consistent column alignment across each page, which is accurate for ordinary reports and weaker on unusual layouts.
What happens if my PDF contains several tables?

All of them are extracted. The converter walks the whole PDF rather than stopping at the first table, so a report with a dozen tables produces Excel output carrying all twelve.
My PDF is a scan - why does it produce nothing?

Because a scanned page is an image. The extractor works from actual text and its coordinates, and an image contains neither. OCR the PDF into a searchable file first; that version converts to Excel normally.
Is the formatting of the original table preserved?

The structure is - rows, columns and the values in them. The decoration is not: fills, fonts and borders are not carried into the Excel, and merged cells are resolved into ordinary ones so the data stays machine-readable.
Are there limits on how big the Excel can get?

The target format sets them. The legacy .xls format tops out at 256 columns and 65,536 rows and the converter tells you when a table exceeds either - convert to .xlsx instead. XLSX itself allows about a million rows; CSV is a flat text grid with no ceiling.
When should I use PDF to Excel rather than another conversion?

Use it when the numbers in the PDF are what you need - a price list, a results table, a financial statement - and you want to sort or calculate on them. If you want the document itself, convert it to DOCX, ODT or TXT.
Do I need an account to convert PDF to Excel?

No. The conversion runs without registration and the Excel downloads as soon as it is ready. Upgrading raises the file-size ceiling and the number of files you can push through at once.
Can I extract tables from several PDF files at once?

Yes - drop them all into the upload area and each one produces its own Excel. Files with no tables are reported individually, so a bad file in the batch does not disguise itself as a good one.
What happens to my PDF after the Excel is generated?

It is deleted. Conversions run in isolated workers and both the uploaded PDF and the produced Excel are removed within minutes; no human sees the contents. Details are at /privacy/.
