What happens to my layers when I convert PSD to JPG?

They are composited into a single image. PSD is Photoshop native — layers, masks, adjustment layers and blend modes stay live and editable, which no flat image format can represent, and no flat format can represent that — so blend modes, opacity and masks are applied in order and baked into the pixels of the JPG. The result matches what you see in Photoshop, but it is no longer editable.

Are hidden layers included in the JPG?

No. We honour the visibility flags saved in the PSD, exactly as the composite preview in Photoshop does. Hidden layers, and layers with zero opacity, do not appear in the JPG.

Do adjustment layers and blend modes render correctly?

Standard blend modes and adjustment layers are applied during compositing, so the JPG matches the flattened preview. Very exotic effects, some smart-filter stacks and certain layer styles can differ slightly, because they are Photoshop-specific rendering rather than a documented format feature.

Can I get one JPG per layer instead of a flattened image?

Not from this tool — it produces the composite. For per-layer exports, use the layer-export function inside an editor and then batch-convert the resulting files here, which is normally faster than exporting one by one anyway.

Does transparency survive PSD to JPG?

If the PSD has transparent regions and the target supports alpha (PNG, WebP, TIFF), they stay transparent. Targets without an alpha channel (JPG, JPEG, JFIF, BMP in most writers) composite onto white instead.

Do I need Photoshop installed to do this?

No — that is the point. The PSD is parsed directly by the server, so you can open, view and convert a layered file on a machine that has never had Adobe software on it. Handy for handing artwork to someone without a licence.

Will text layers stay sharp?

Yes. Text is rendered at the document resolution during compositing, so it is as crisp in the JPG as in the source. It is no longer editable text, though — it is pixels.

What about CMYK PSD files for print?

CMYK documents are converted to sRGB for the JPG, because the web-facing raster formats are RGB. Expect a small shift in saturated colours; that shift is inherent to the gamut change, not to the conversion. Keep the PSD as your print master.

How large can my PSD be?

Free accounts handle typical layered documents; very large multi-gigabyte production files with hundreds of layers need Pro, which raises the per-file cap. Compositing memory scales with canvas size and layer count, not with file size alone.

Why is the JPG bigger than I expected?

A flattened composite is a full-canvas raster at full resolution. Because JPG stores 8-bit RGB through a lossy DCT with 4:2:0 chroma subsampling by default, so fine red text and hard edges are the first things to soften, a large canvas produces a large file even though the PSD may have compressed well. Resize after converting if you need it smaller.

Can I batch-convert a folder of PSD files?

Yes — drop them all in and each is composited independently. This is the usual way to turn a directory of design deliverables into shareable JPG previews.

Is my PSD private during conversion?

Yes — uploaded files are processed in isolated workers and deleted within minutes. Unreleased design work is never stored, reviewed or reused. See /privacy/.
