Remember that PNG is lossless DEFLATE with a full 8-bit alpha channel and optional 16-bit depth, so it never degrades on re-save but gets large on photographic content, whereas BMP is essentially raw uncompressed RGB rows with a small header, so it is perfectly lossless and enormous — often 10-20x the size of the same image as PNG — so a heavily-compressed PNG usually GROWS when re-encoded into a lossless BMP, and a bulky lossless PNG usually shrinks sharply going the other way. Image content matters too: photographs and flat line art compress very differently.
Can I use the converted BMP file commercially?
