How do I convert PNG to BMP without losing image quality?

It helps to know what each side actually is: PNG is lossless DEFLATE with a full 8-bit alpha channel and optional 16-bit depth, so it never degrades on re-save but gets large on photographic content, while BMP is essentially raw uncompressed RGB rows with a small header, so it is perfectly lossless and enormous — often 10-20x the size of the same image as PNG. Does PNG to BMP conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when going to PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, ICO, PSD or SVG. Converting to JPG / JPEG / JFIF flattens the alpha channel against a white background — if you need transparency, target a transparency-aware format instead of BMP.
What about EXIF metadata when converting PNG to BMP?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the BMP. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert hundreds of PNG files to BMP at once?

What resolution and dimensions will my BMP file have?

Default behaviour is 1:1 — your BMP output has the same pixel dimensions as the source PNG. ICO output is the exception (it produces a multi-resolution stack: 16/32/48/64/128/256). If you need to resize as part of the conversion, use /resize/ after conversion.
Are my PNG files private during conversion?

Yes. Uploaded PNG files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted BMP are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
Why is my converted BMP file bigger / smaller than I expected?

Size is decided by the two compression models, not by the converter. Remember that PNG is lossless DEFLATE with a full 8-bit alpha channel and optional 16-bit depth, so it never degrades on re-save but gets large on photographic content, whereas BMP is essentially raw uncompressed RGB rows with a small header, so it is perfectly lossless and enormous — often 10-20x the size of the same image as PNG — so a heavily-compressed PNG usually GROWS when re-encoded into a lossless BMP, and a bulky lossless PNG usually shrinks sharply going the other way. Image content matters too: photographs and flat line art compress very differently.
Can I use the converted BMP file commercially?

Yes. The conversion is a format change — copyright on the image content stays with you (or whoever held it on the source PNG). We add no watermark, no metadata stamp, and claim no licence over the output.
