WebP to JFIF Conversion FAQ

How do I convert WebP to JFIF without losing image quality?
+
It helps to know what each side actually is: WebP carries both a lossy VP8 mode and a lossless mode plus full alpha, typically landing 25-35% under a JPG of matching visual quality, while JFIF is a plain JPEG bitstream under the original 1992 interchange header, which is why some viewers show it as a generic image and cameras still emit it. Upload your WebP file and our converter applies format-aware quality optimization for JFIF output — for lossless targets (PNG, TIFF, BMP, PSD) every pixel is preserved; for lossy targets (JPG, WebP, GIF) you can tune the quality factor before download.
Transparency survives when going to PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, ICO, PSD or SVG. Converting to JPG / JPEG / JFIF flattens the alpha channel against a white background — if you need transparency, target a transparency-aware format instead of JFIF.
In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the JFIF. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
Default behaviour is 1:1 — your JFIF output has the same pixel dimensions as the source WebP. ICO output is the exception (it produces a multi-resolution stack: 16/32/48/64/128/256). If you need to resize as part of the conversion, use /resize/ after conversion.
Yes. Uploaded WebP files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted JFIF are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
Size is decided by the two compression models, not by the converter. Remember that WebP carries both a lossy VP8 mode and a lossless mode plus full alpha, typically landing 25-35% under a JPG of matching visual quality, whereas JFIF is a plain JPEG bitstream under the original 1992 interchange header, which is why some viewers show it as a generic image and cameras still emit it — so a heavily-compressed WebP usually GROWS when re-encoded into a lossless JFIF, and a bulky lossless WebP usually shrinks sharply going the other way. Image content matters too: photographs and flat line art compress very differently.
Yes. The conversion is a format change — copyright on the image content stays with you (or whoever held it on the source WebP). We add no watermark, no metadata stamp, and claim no licence over the output.

WebP

WebP provides superior lossless and lossy compression for images on the web, developed by Google.

JFIF

JFIF is the interchange wrapper around baseline JPEG data, so a JFIF file is a JPEG under a different extension.
