What resolution will the BMP images be?

Pages are rendered at 150 DPI, which is crisp on screen and fine for most printing. There is no DPI setting for Word to BMP. For 72 or 300 DPI, convert the Word to PDF first, then use the PDF to BMP converter, which has a Resolution setting.
Why would I turn a document into images?

To make it viewable anywhere and hard to edit — thumbnails, previews, forum posts, slide decks, or sending a page to someone who has no compatible software. The trade-off is that the text stops being text.
Will the text still be selectable?

No. Rendering to BMP converts the words into pixels, so the result cannot be selected, searched or copied. If you need the document to stay searchable, convert to PDF instead of to an image format.
Will fonts render correctly?

Fonts embedded in the Word render exactly. Fonts merely referenced by name are substituted with the closest available match, which can shift line breaks and occasionally the page count. Embedding fonts before conversion is the way to guarantee fidelity.
Are page margins, headers and footers included?

Yes — the render is the full page as it would print, including margins, running heads, footers and page numbers. Crop afterwards if you only want the content area.
Does the layout look exactly like the original?

Very close. Because Word documents keep text, styles and images as editable objects rather than as a fixed page image, layout depends on the renderer resolving fonts and styles the same way; the visual result matches a normal print preview. Complex floating objects are the usual place small differences appear.
Should I choose a lossy or lossless target?

For pages of text, a lossless target (PNG, TIFF) is much better — lossy compression puts visible halos around sharp black-on-white glyphs at exactly the sizes people read at. Use a lossy target only for image-heavy pages where file size matters more.
Can I convert only certain pages?

No. There is no page setting for Word files, so every page is rendered as its own BMP and you keep the ones you need. If you only want the first page, convert the Word to PDF and then use the PDF to BMP converter, whose Pages menu offers First page only.
Can I batch several Word files?

Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
Does transparency apply here?

Pages render with a solid white background, matching how the document would print. Targets with an alpha channel keep it available, but a rendered page has no transparent regions to preserve.
Is my Word private during conversion?

Yes. Uploaded Word files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted BMP are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
