What exactly do I get from EPUB to GIF?

Rendered pictures of the book. Each rendered page — or the cover alone, if that is all you asked for — is exported as its own GIF image. Multiple pages come back as a numbered set in one archive.
How do I extract just the cover?

Choose the cover-only option and you get a single GIF of the cover artwork at its embedded resolution. This is the fastest way to get a thumbnail for a catalogue, a shop listing or a library database.
What page size does a reflowable book render at?

Because EPUB is reflowable XHTML in a zip — text re-lays-out to any screen width, which is why e-readers prefer it, there is no fixed page to reproduce — so we render at a chosen virtual page size and font size, and paginate from there. Change either and the number of pages changes; that is a property of the format, not of the converter.
Will the text be selectable in the GIF?

No. These are pictures of pages, so the text becomes pixels. Convert the book to PDF or a document format instead if you need it to stay searchable.
What resolution should I pick?

For thumbnails and web listings, a few hundred pixels on the long edge is plenty. For readable full pages, aim for at least 1200px tall. Higher resolution means sharper text and, since GIF is capped at a 256-colour palette with single-bit (on/off) transparency and no partial alpha, which is why photographs band and dither in it, proportionally larger files.
Should I use a lossy or lossless target?

Lossless (PNG, TIFF) for pages of text — lossy compression halos sharp black glyphs on white in a way that is very visible at reading sizes. Lossy is acceptable for photographic covers where the file size matters more.
Can I render only some pages?

Yes — give a page range and only those are exported. Useful for pulling out a single diagram, a copyright page or a sample chapter for a preview.
Do embedded fonts render correctly?

Fonts embedded in the book are used for the render, so the result matches how a reader displays it. Where a font is only named and unavailable, the closest match is substituted and the pagination shifts slightly.
Are illustrations included?

Yes — images render in place as part of the page, exactly as they appear when reading. To extract the illustrations as separate files rather than as page renders, convert to an archive instead.
Does it work on DRM-protected books?

No. Protected files cannot be opened and will fail with an error. Only DRM-free books can be rendered.
Can I batch several books?

Yes — each book is rendered independently into its own numbered image set. Cover-only mode across a batch is the standard way to build a library thumbnail catalogue quickly.
Is my book private during conversion?

Yes — uploads are processed in isolated workers and deleted within minutes. Nothing is stored, reviewed or reused. See /privacy/.
